Polk Audio PSW10 Monitor Series Powered Subwoofer

The PSW 10 is very much an entry level powered subwoofer. It has the power to perform, but its design leaves much to be desired. The port can be a bit noisy at higher levels as the air wooshes in and out, and the grille covering the speakers flexes and rattles at lower frequencies when played loud. It does a decent job though most of the time. For the price it would be hard to beat. Apart from my previous gripes, my biggest concern is the distortion of lower frequencies. A screening of The Lord of the Rings really puts the subwoofer through its paces. It did well for the most part, but in some of the battle scenes (with the Nazgul, in particular) the sub turned to mush.

If you aren't too picky, or if you don't play it too loud, the PSW10 will work just fine. But if you prefer ground shaking, low bass, you'll want to look elsewhere.
