The Polk Audio Monitor 50's are decent speakers. For the price I think they would be hard to beat. They are crisp and clean and able to handle full range sources. They work well both in home theater and home stereo duty where they are reinforced on the low end with a subwoofer. Compared to the much more expensive Monitor 60 series, these speakers sound almost identical. With two 5.25 inch woofers and one 1 inch tweeter, plenty of sound is produced.
The Monitor 50's can be bi-amped (be sure to remove the metal conductor between the posts - which is not mentioned in the manual), and feature a universal binding post that can accept almost all connector types. The manual suggests setting these speakers to "small" in your AV receiver if you are using a sub, but I found "large" to produce better sounding results.
