This is a decent entry-level receiver. It has plenty of inputs, outputs, and options that allow it to fit in almost any home theater installation. The VSX-516-K accepts a variety of connections for the speaker output terminals: single banana, straight pin, or bare wire. I used banana type connectors and they seem to fit snuggly.
When I first started setting up this receiver, I was almost overwhelmed with all the settings and modes. I sat down and read through the manual and started setting it up. In no time I was good to go. While the manual does a pretty good job at explaining the various functions, there are still a few modes/settings I am not really sure about.
The VSX-516-K has plenty of power for most sizes of home theater settings. It can accommodate both 5.1 and 7.1 speaker configurations. If you choose to go 5.1, you can use the unused channels to bi-amp the front left and right speakers.
One of my only dislikes about this receiver is that it doesn't allow you to utilize the subwoofer output in stereo mode unless your front left and right speakers are set to "small". Personally, I want the extra kick added from the subwoofer, even with full range front speakers. The remote control is a bit on the small side, as well.
