My Toshiba SD-4900 was carried over from my previous system and is several years old. But it still performs well and can play almost anything: DVD, CD, mp3/wma, jpeg, etc.
The main feature worth noting here is the progressive scan capability which produces a much higher quality picture than a standard DVD player when used with an HDTV.
This unit also has 5.1 channel outputs that allow you to connect directly to your AV receiver for playback of DVD Audio discs.
